Make your tweaks to the Child Theme CSS and code instead of hacking the core HeatMap Theme code. For us it’s the only way to fly and we recommend it to you. Don’t hack the core code! Hack the child theme instead!

Yes the site you are looking at right now is built on the standard HeatMap Theme and because of the way HeatMap Theme is designed, it will still work even when the core code is upgraded, because it uses a HeatMap Theme compatible Child Theme.
