Auto Thumbnails for Pages and Posts (featured images)
Please note: Thumbnails have been renamed to ‘featured images’ in WordPress 3.0!
WordPress Auto Thumbnail options have been implemented to make it easy to include featured images and thumbnails in your posts and pages.
To see an example of this feature in action see stuartwider.com
- On the right of your WordPress post editor you will find the Featured Image Option.
- Just click on Set Featured Image and the regular WordPress Media Uploader will appear.
- Either upload a new image or select an image from your media library from which to create your featured image.
- Click on Use as Featured Image.
- Your posts will now have featured images automatically generated, with different sizes of the image used throughout the theme as follows…
- Pages/Posts – up to 290 pixels wide
- Categories and Archives – up to 150 x 150 pixels wide
- Recent Posts Plus Widget – up to 75 x 75 pixels wide
- Its important to note that the Heatmap theme uses ‘Hard Crop Mode’ to crop images: ie your images should relatively square to start with if you want them to look good when resized. Long images such as logos will get cropped. There are solutions on the forum though if you want to change this default behaviour.

You can also choose whether to push your featured images left or right using the Thumbnail Image Settings in your Heatmap Theme options page.
